I have not been able to blog as much as I'd like to lately but I decided to at least throw a lazy one at you for the week. Here is the little corner, off of the kitchen, dedicated to my 18 month old.

Painting the vanity cabinets

I have wanted to paint the cabinets in both bathrooms of the house since we moved in. My only experience with painting furniture ended in disaster so I had no idea where to begin. This will be a recurring theme- I found it on Pinterest! Here is the original link:

I used the suggested methods in the blog linked above and also asked for input from a friendly staff member of Home Depot. He suggestied that we (my husband and I- did I forget to mention him?) lightly sand the cabinets before appplying primer. We settled on the Kilz primer since it was suggested in the blog.

We let the primer dry over night an then added 2-3 coats of paint. We wanted to use the color suggested in the blog but Home Depot no longer carried it. Luckily, the friendly staff member was happy to combine his memory of the color with an Internet search to get as close as possible. He pressed that it was important to use a semi-gloss for this type of project. I normally give all of my business to Sherwin Williams, since my brother-in-law is an employee and can't say enough positive things about them, but I didn't think our cranky toddler would tolerate any additional paint shopping trips. We went with Glidden, since we are on a budget.

Eventually we would like to get hardware for the drawers and cabinets but I am very pleased with the results. Fairly easy, very inexpensive, and definitely worth it. What do you think?
